I took the plunge!
Over the past few years, I have written and collected a set of essays geared toward helping early, and mid-career managers navigate tricky work situations. Situations like letting people go, delivering bad news to stakeholders, regaining lost trust with your team, giving critical feedback to your boss, etc. All the things that most management books gloss over.
I wrote the first set of essays mostly for myself. A lot of what I learned over the last two decades is not readily available in books because they were derived from multiple books, combined with the advice given by my mentors and a bit of my own intuition, so I decided to start writing them down for my own reference. But I found myself sharing edited portions of my essays with aspiring managers, so I decided to focus my writing on helping managers. In addition to helpful tips, I have also included personal anecdotes from my past that will help the readers paint a complete picture with a real world example.
LinkedIn is great for bite-sized content, but (IMO) not so great for long-form essays. My original plan was to collect enough material to publish a book, but I have decided to release my long-form content through a newsletter for various reasons that I will get into in a future post :) For my faithful LinkedIn readers, fear not! My short-form content will still be on LinkedIn. I hope this newsletter's contents will help managers survive and thrive in moments of deep conflict.
This is The Sensible Manager, a newsletter about the hard bits of being an Engineering Management. So hit subscribe, and let's start this uncomfortable journey together!
